It is with deep sorrow that we share the sad news that architect Yulii Farkov has left us. He has been a longtime associate and friend of the National History Museum, and leaves behind a rich body of research and a selection of publications.
Arch. Farkov is the author of dozens of projects for the conservation, restoration and adaptation of cultural monuments, such as the architectural reconstructions of the forum of the colony of Ulpia Escenzium and Serdika, the fortification systems of Kaliakra, Abritus, Pautalia, Tsari mali town near Belchin, the Great Basilica in Pliska , of the episcopal basilica in the town of Sandanski, Villa Urbana in Abritus, Villa Eustica near Serdika, Villa Armira near Ivaylovgrad. Author of projects for conservation and restoration of late antique and medieval fortresses in Sofia, Kyustedil, Peshtera and others. Arch. Yulii Furkov is the winner of a number of prestigious awards and distinctions, such as the "Architect of the Year" award of the SAB and KAB for saved architectural heritage, for the site "Conservation, restoration and exhibition of the ancient Villa Armira" near Ivaylovgrad - a project implemented in 2008 and in 2010 for the site "Episcopal Basilica City of Sandanski". In 2013, he received the award-order "Golden Century" and a diploma of the Ministry of Culture, for his contribution to the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Republic of Bulgaria. In 2019, he was awarded the title "Honorary Citizen of Kyustendil".
Architect Julius Farkov was born in 1946. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Higher Institute of Engineering and Construction in Sofia in 1971. In the 70s and 80s, he worked at the Center for Architectural Studies and the Institute of Archeology of the BAS. He specializes in architectural research of ancient and medieval ensembles.
