The Way of the Boteva Cheta: Popovot Hanche

Evening of May 17, 1876:

On the outskirts of Kozloduy, the Chetniks gather for a short inspection and leave for the village of Butan with a flying flag. In the evening, they stay near the Popovo Inn - most of the villagers run away scared by the weapons, but some, realizing that these are not robbers, give them water and food. According to Zahari Stoyanov, several women even kiss the flag. Here, Marko Boshnakov from Vratsa, Vasil Valkov and Ivan Tonev from Teteven join the squad. Five villagers also leave with the train. In order to cross the Ogosta River, which had risen from the spring rains, Nikola Voynovski and a group of Chetniks built the wagons as a pontoon bridge on which the troop passed.
