"Without the National History Museum, this exhibition with the participation of Bulgaria would not have been possible," stressed Vice President Iliyana Yotova in her welcome address during the official opening of the British Museum's exhibition "Luxury and Power: From Persia to Greece" in London.
Yesterday, May 03, 2023, in the presence of the Vice President Iliyana Yotova, the Acting Minister of Culture Nayden Todorov, the Bulgarian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Marin Raykov and the head of the "Exhibition and International Activities" department at the National History Museum ch. Associate Professor Petranka Nedelcheva, a large-scale exhibition was opened, in which the Panagyur treasure, emblematic of Bulgaria, occupies a central place.
The exhibition traces the relationship between wealth and politics in the first millennium BC, presenting dazzling objects from Europe to Asia. It includes objects from the collection and property of the British Museum, exquisitely crafted objects of gold, silver and glass, as well as the exceptional Panagyur treasure from Bulgaria.
"We owe so much to the museum specialists, to the scientists - they help us discover and read what the ancients bequeathed to us. The larger and narrower the network between them, the closer these lessons will be to each of us," said the vice president.
Vice President Yotova and Minister Todorov were the first official guests to view the exhibition, accompanied by the Bulgarian Ambassador Marin Raykov, the Director of the British Museum Hartwig Fischer and Dr. Petranka Nedelcheva.
We remind you that in connection with this exhibition and at the invitation of Prof. Dr. Bonnie Petrunova, director of the National History Museum, several meetings were held with the curator of the exhibition "Luxury and Power: From Persia to Greece", Dr. James Fraser. As a result of the talks, the largest museum institution in Bulgaria agreed on future professional relations with the British Museum for the exchange of good practices, experts in the field of museum work, archeology and cultural heritage.
