On May 18 and 19, 2023, the National Scientific Conference "The Museum from the Inside - Times, Spaces, Audiences" was held in Blagoevgrad, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dimka Serafimova - the first director of RIM-Blagoevgrad and expert researcher of the archaeological wealth of The Pirin area for more than three decades.
The National History Museum was represented at this conference with two reports, both dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the National History Museum: 1. Ivan Petrinski (National History Museum), "Usage and main highlights in the presentation of the non-museum medieval archaeological spaces in Sredna Struma and Gorna and Sredna Mesta as a natural continuation of the museum expositions in Blagoevgrad region" (on May 18 at 16:40 p.m. according to the official program);
2. Ivan Petrinski, Galina Draganova, Nevyana Lukanova (National History Museum), "The creation and completion of the library and the scientific archive in the National History Museum during the first years of the museum's existence (May 1973 - April 1976). On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the National History Museum" (on May 18 at 17:00 p.m. according to the official program).
The organizers of the RIM-Blagoevgrad conference had tried to pass the two working days in such a way that the participants would be as relaxed as possible and think only about their presentation, about the integrity and scientific accuracy of their reports. Special emphasis was placed on a wonderful exhibition "Dimka Serafimova - a life dedicated to archaeology". In the exhibition, Dimka Serafimova's numerous working photographs are complemented by showcases presenting the most significant sites, led by the first director of the Blagoevgrad Historical Museum and well known to the entire archaeological community in Bulgaria - the late antique and medieval fortress next to the then village of Dolno Tserovo, today part of from Blagoevgrad; the excavations near the village of Klyuch, Petrichko, the so-called Samuil's Fortress; the multi-year excavations in Melnik, of the so-called "Small Fortification" (castle) in the Citadel of the medieval city. The reports from the conference will soon be published in a dedicated volume of Izvestiya na RIM-Blagoevgrad.
It was a special honor for the representatives of the National History Museum at the conference in Blagoevgrad to meet and communicate with the daughter and grandson of Dimka Serafimova - Dimitrina Serafimova and Yasen Durmishev, who is following in his grandmother's footsteps - he is a student of archaeology.
