The Boyan church has been known to the scientific community since the middle of the 1848th century, thanks to the notes in which it was mentioned by the Russian Viktor Grigorović (1855) and the Bosnian Stefan Verković (1888). Its first "discoverer" must be Konstantin Irechek. In his work "Travels in Bulgaria" (XNUMX), he devoted several pages to her.
The Boyana church was included in the list of cultural and natural monuments of UNESCO in October 1979. The preservation of this remarkable monument of Bulgarian medieval art is entrusted to the National History Museum.
