The act of consecration of the capital school "Neophyte Bozveli" returned from restoration

One of the most beautiful exhibits of the National History Museum has returned from restoration - a true example of elegance and a vivid example of the importance attached to education until 1944. This is an artistically crafted Deed of Consecration of the Metropolitan Primary School "Neophyte Bozveli" , which bears the date September 15, 1940 and is exhibited in hall 5 of the museum.

The act marks the opening of a new building for the then XIX National Primary School "Neofit Bozveli" in Sofia. "In this school, the children - sons and daughters of the citizens of the Vasil Levski neighborhood in Greater Sofia - will receive knowledge and education and will be strengthened to serve the King, Family and Motherland," the document reads. The fact that it was signed by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Education Prof. Dr. Bogdan Filov, from N.V. His Eminence Sofia Metropolitan Stefan, from the mayor of the Greater Sofia Municipality, Eng. Ivan Ivanov, and from the assistant mayor, Ivan G. Lekarski, speak for themselves. The act also bears the signatures of school inspectors, representatives of junior high school principals, principal Raiko Naydenov and teachers from the school.

From the text we also learn that the architect of the building is the famous Bulgarian intellectual Chavdar Mutafov, known besides as the husband of the writer Fani Popova-Mutafova and as one of the most talented writers who appeared in the fields of journalism, criticism, prose and the art of translation. From 1935, he was responsible for school construction in the capital municipality and designed a number of other buildings in Sofia, the most famous of which is today's "Princess Maria Luisa" Vocational High School for Clothing on Cherni Vrah Blvd. in the capital and in Kardzhali, the Mastanli Palace District Standing Committee (today the Ministry of the Interior) (architects: Victoria Angelova and Chavdar Mutafov, project: 1929, start of construction: 1930). The construction contractor is Rangel Vasilev, and the artist of the impressive document is N. Kilov.

44 secondary school in the "Vasil Levski" district of the "Poduyane" metropolitan area.

Today, Neophyte Bozveli school has kept its old name, but it is no longer the 19th, but the 44th secondary school. It is located at the same address - Plakalnitsa Street No. 45 and is the oldest in the Vasil Levski district of the capital's Poduyane district, we learn from its website. Now it is no longer basic, but the training is up to class XII and is profiled in the field of information technology and graphic design. From the pages of the school we learn more interesting things - we see that the main elements of its coat of arms are the same as before - an open book and a sun. And from the "Chronicle" we read that in 1940, when the new building was opened, it "was a two-story building with 1200 sq.m. area, of which 200 m 2 are occupied by a theater (gymnastics) hall. The master builder is the 75-year-old grandfather Rangel Vassilev - the oldest entrepreneur among the Sofia masters, who handed over the site in record time with perfectly executed work. Even then, a kindergarten was opened at the school." Subsequently, the school was upgraded with a third floor.
