May 17 was a day in which the emblem of the Bulgarian people rose high again, a day that pushed us into a bloody struggle with our age-old enemy. As soon as dawn had broken, the sky in the east was reddening in waves, the quiet breeze was blowing along the Danube, when the chimney of the "Radetsky" began to smoke, and it itself proudly, proudly began to pour the cloudy waves of the Danube.
