The collection contains over 5000 awards. Valuable, attractive and representative, it includes Bulgarian orders, medals and signs established in the Principality and Kingdom of Bulgaria; awards confirmed after 1944, foreign orders and medals.

In the National History Museum, awards minted on the occasion of jubilee anniversaries and important historical, scientific, cultural and sports events are kept.

Of exceptional historical value are the matrices of princely and royal orders, medals and insignia that entered the National History Museum in 2010.

The museum owns part of the personal collection of high-ranking orders and medals of the Bulgarian patriot and diplomat Dimitar Stanchov.

The collection of awards established in the People's Republic of Bulgaria is rich and complete, including signs of various cities in the country.

The diplomas and awards received by famous Bulgarian personalities for achievements in the fields of culture, science and sports, such as the artists Ivan Nenov, Hristo Vakarelski, Georgi Partsalev, Lyudmila Prokopova, Stefka Kostadinova, etc., are significant.

The National History Museum stores awards of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of the Interior minted in the Republic of Bulgaria, active at the present time.

The collection has been completed since 1975.
